Expo 2020 Dubai

An international competition to support the building of an inclusive society based on innovation, sustainability and economic growth.

Milan, October 2021 - "Education for Women's Empowerment" is an international competition in which Fondazione Milano per Expo ETS is offering three Temporary Research Fellowships. It’s an important challenge which aims to help create a dedicated environment for education and training, as well as increasing resources for better education for women in disciplines such as STEM, engineering, design and architecture.

Fondazione Milano per Expo ETS has always been committed to meeting the challenges that today more than ever enterprises must face, building an environment that favours inclusion and diversity and working on the increasingly critical issue of matching university education with the demand for professional profiles.

Politecnico di Milano, the technical-scientific university that trains engineers, architects and designers, has always focused on quality and innovation in teaching and research, developing a productive relationship with the economic and production sectors through a large experimental area and technology transfer.

The specific objective of "Education for Women's Empowerment" is to select, reward and promote international candidates mindful of the effect they can have on the female dimension, in three areas:

  • Big data and artificial intelligence for health and biomedical research Read more
  • Sense/time-based design and neuroscience as a contribution to the social responsibility of therapeutic structures Read more
  • Sports infrastructure and urban regenerationRead more

Inspired by the vision of research and development that Politecnico di Milano has promoted over the past decade, highlighting frontier research, cross-disciplinary proposals and pioneering ideas in emerging sectors that require unconventional and innovative approaches, the promoters have identified areas of interest that respect the theme of Expo 2020 Dubai and are among the priorities of the Foundation's Statute and Founding Members.

"Education for Women's Empowerment" will be presented in the Italian Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai on 10 November, under the patronage of the Commissioner General for Italy at Expo, Paolo Glisenti. The invitation is open to those with a Bachelor's, Doctorate or Master's degree.

The candidates chosen by the Commissions will receive a scholarship for one year of research at Politecnico di Milano. Individual or joint applications must be submitted from 9 AM Italian time on 11 November 2021 and no later than 6 PM on 21 January 2022.

The winners will be announced on 8 March 2022 at Expo 2020 Dubai.

For the Politecnico di Milano, research has always been a priority commitment that enables it to achieve high international standards and bring together the academic and business worlds. Partnership with the industrial sector, supported by Fondazione Politecnico di Milano and the consortia in which it participates, has once again proved a winning and stimulating strategy. Thanks to long-standing collaboration with the Fondazione Milano per Expo ETS, at Expo 2020 Dubai the two Italian organisations will focus an international spotlight on the addition of female skills to the technical and scientific research sectors and the labour market.
